Artistic Tree

When I was at the Phoenix Art Museum for the Arts & Flowers show, I spotted this new artwork in the contemporary gallery.  It's called "Do you Really Want to Hurt Me" by artist Rebecca Campbell.  Do you see those little dots of blue sitting on the tree?  See the photo below.

Little glass blue birds are sitting in various places on the tree.  The description of this artwork says it's constructed from an avocado tree reinforced with steel and fiberglass, covered in velvet with glass birds that are filled with Windex.  Yes, you heard that right, Windex.  It further states:  "Named for a pop song by the British band Culture Club, Campbell explains that its genesis was the sight of a group of burned trees standing in bright snow."

I like it!  It's very striking standing in the center of this gallery.

  2. Windex!! Well that is odd :) but it's a very pretty piece Sharon, love the reflection it creates on the polished floor. The bluebirds are so sweet, but... Windex?

  6. So glad you photographed one of the birds; the windex gives the glass a lovely color. Love the shape of the tree, looks like it is dancing to be free.

  7. This is familiar as it reminds me of some of our old oak trees. I would not have noticed the blue dots except for your pointing them out. Very cute. Why Windex, I wonder?

  8. I really like the wee birds but I also wonder why Windex! The whole piece is quite good, Sharon.

  9. Had to look up what Windex was, surprising but the effect is marvellous, I love it!
While I thought I knew most of Culture Club's songs, I must be getting old and forgetting things. I can't imagine which one inspired this!

  11. Wasn't Boy George the lead singer of The Culture Club?

I like the tree. But covered in velvet?

  13. Does it have the scent of Windex too? Of course I am joking here...
I like it very much and would see this tree in a place where nature is not available to people like in a retirement home for people who can't go anymore outside.

  14. Windex! That's great. If you're looking for just that shade of blue, there's probably nothing quite like Windex.
