Exotic Architecture

While searching out some of the historic neighborhoods I've been doing a series about, I found this place with the very exotic architecture.

Once I saw the place, I remembered that I had seen it before but it was many years ago. I learned that it was going to be a Sikh Cultural Center.  It was under construction when I first saw it so I didn't take any photos of it at that time.  I thought I'd wait and come back when it was done.

Sadly, it still appears to be under construction and frankly it looks much the same as it did when I first saw it all those years ago.  I wonder what happened.  Maybe it's just a matter of shortage of funds after the recession.  It will certainly be a striking looking building when it's completed.

I have a new post on Sharon's Sojourns today.  Take a look inside the gardens at the Getty Villa.

  1. The roof top has a great charm, with the gold shine giving a nice depth.

  3. There must be a significance to gold domes in the Sikh religion. Isn't the golden dome in Amritsar their holiest shrine? Anyway, interesting building, and I hope they can finish it soon.

  5. I don't know how many Sikhs there are in the world or if their numbers are dropping. I suspect the latter is the case. A distinctive building yet I think it's in harmony with its desert location.

  6. One wonders what the story is as to why it's taking so long.

  8. Money or the lack of it, or possibly a stop-work order form the city? There must be a good story there, Sharon! I hope they can finish it!

  9. It looks quite forbidding to the outside world in this state. Not the only project that ran out of money.

  10. It looks like there's a bunch of little UFO's on the roof - I kinda love it!

  11. Construction could also have been halted because of religious intolerance. :(
If it's ever finished, I hope you'll get to see inside.

  12. It has beautiful straight lines and is potentially a lovely place with some landscaping. Ever since a long-ago trip to India I have been interested in and fascinated by the Sikhs.

  14. Looking forward to see it when it's ready. Hopefully the time patina will make the place look more charming as the similar buildings in India.
