The "Phantom" returns
Sunday night I saw "The Phantom of the Opera" for about the 4th time and I have to say, this road company production was one of the all time best I've seen. The staging was fantastic with lavish and gilded flats and accessories and beautifully constructed set pieces.
The closing of the first act was breathtaking when the chandelier threw off sparks and came crashing down right above our seats! They used a lot of sparks and fire in this production. More than I've seen used before. It was great. I love to see how audience members feel compelled to dress to match the event. There was even one very young man in the audience dressed as the Phantom with his mother at his side wearing a beautiful ball gown. I wish I could have gotten their photo.
Speaking of photos, sorry about the grainy iPhone photos but, that's all I had with me.
I imagine it was all quite spectacular!
ReplyDeleteNever seen it once, not really appealed to me
ReplyDeleteI hope you got some photos of the dressed-up audience.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the Phantom for the 4th time! :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a dramatic performance Sharon.. you must really have a soft spot to see it four times :)
ReplyDeleteSounds very impressive! I love the chandelier, and its always nice to go to an event where you get to dress up!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun evening. Though I know the story of Phantom, I've never actually seen a live performance of it. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWhat an event!I never saw any of "The Phantom of the Opera's" performances on stage and I know I should. I saw more that one version on TV though...
ReplyDeleteYou do get out and about. I've never seen the Phantom. My bad. One of these days I get to it, perhaps. Sounds like a superb production!
ReplyDeleteQuite an escalator story you told! Thanks. I still get a queasy feeling on one - they don't seen very stable and I hate heights.
This chandelier is fabulous, Sharon!
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Mexico I had (another ex-pat) friend who just loved Phantom. I was not as thrilled.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen it on stage. I did see the adaptation for film with Gerard Butler though.
ReplyDeleteYou make we want to go and see it! One day, hopefully. Love that chandelier.
ReplyDeleteI'd have adored that! I saw it in London so many years ago and loved it!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see it again. I've seen it 4 times too.
ReplyDeleteSaw a performance years ago, which was delightful but probably less dramatic than yours.
