What on earth is that thing framing those palm trees?
It's a sculpture that sits on the grounds of the Phoenix Art Museum. I couldn't find a plaque for this one so I can't tell you who the artist is but, I do know that it has been in various locations around the museum for many, many years.
I have surprised myself: I like it. And I love the frame!
ReplyDeleteNice frame, Sharon, and I like the whole sculpture in the 2nd shot too!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the juxtaposition of the sculpture in the foreground and the 'structured' building behind. Two worlds in one.
ReplyDeleteI thought of Alexander Calder when I saw the top shot but it's definitely not his style. Great framing and colours.
ReplyDeleteSharon, I can imagine your disppointment when you realized you couldn't take a shot at Poirot's building. I wonder how you found it... :-)
It certainly does stand out!
ReplyDeleteIt's a dynamic piece.. Love your framing here Sharon, so many possibilities with this one..
ReplyDeleteI do like the way you framed those palm trees Sharon! Orange is not my favorite color, but it sure does make this piece hard to miss.
ReplyDeleteI'm like JM - I first though of Calder until I saw the 2nd shot. You will have to investigate. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'll bet it is by Alexander Lieberman. Google Storm King big red sculpture and you will see a piece very much like this.
ReplyDeleteEven easier. Google Alexander Lieberman Phoenix.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see it's still out there.
ReplyDeletePerfect framing and perfect color for Arizona. A trademark.
ReplyDeleteInteresting concept -- slices of a cylinder. It makes a great frame! Good eye, as always. :)
ReplyDeletei've seen similar large bright orange pieces in several other cities.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool!
