Seeds?

I was walking around my neighborhood when I spotted these berry-like seeds on a tree just across the street from me.  That tree is usually very full so now that the leaves are starting to fall, these berries are more visible.  I have no idea how I never noticed them before but, I didn't.  I've asked several people what kind of tree this is but, no one seems to know.  Anyone out there have any ideas?

  3. Sorry. I am clueless. I guess for the time being it will have to be a yellow berry tree.

  5. Well, none of us so far have a clue, except to appreciate the colors. Have a happy week-end!

  6. They must not taste very good or they would be gone. They are pretty, whatever they are called.

  10. I used to hate getting hit in the leg when one of these would fly out of our lawnmower.

  11. It looks like a chinaberry tree to me. It is considered an invasive tree here in Texas. As a kid, before the berries ripened, I used to shoot them in a slingshot. Take a look at Google images and see what you think. The shape of the leaves is probably the key. They are very big trees, if that helps.

  12. I think Kathy is right, it's a Chinaberry tree. I saw one in Black Canyon City today and asked what it was. The lady said the berries are poison and so the birds don't eat them but in the spring they have pretty lavender flowers with a lovely fragrance.
