Acceptance

Last Tuesday (Oct. 8th) I posted a photo of a sculpture by Retha Walden Gambaro that I saw at the Heard Museum.  Therese of Tournefeuille A to Z commented that she had a favorite from this artist and given her description, I think this might be the one she was referring to.  The artist's information on this statue reads: "Sculpted at age 80, 'Acceptance' is a self-portrait by the artist.  She had picked up a leaf that had fallen from a tree and sat to contemplate the seasons of nature and the seasons of human life.  'As the leaf makes it's way to the ground, soon I will join it - in the bosom of mother earth.'"  A very moving sentiment.

Yes that is the one, I just love it. And with the greenery and light you brought in there is a feeling of positiveness.

Quite prophetic and contemplative, reflected in the woman's posture. PS. Slowly feeling better but not there yet!

This is wonderful. Not just the sculpture but the fact is was done at age 80 and because of its meaning! Very moving, indeed!

Well, that's a bummer, Sharon. Now I'm depressed.
