Weekend Adventures, part 2

After visiting Out of Africa, I drove just a few miles further north and visited Montezuma's Castle National Monument.  The castle is a five story, 20 room dwelling built 100 feet above the valley.  It was built by Southern Sinagua farmers around 1100.  It is quite an impressive sight.  Don't you wish you could actually see how the people lived in this place way back then?  Too bad time travel hasn't been invented yet.

  2. OMG! I've got a slide almost identical to this shot, but taken in 1959 or 1960. We had a great time visiting this place. Beautiful shot and it brings back wonderful memories. Thanks!

  3. It was named by white people a long time ago. It had nothing to do with Montezuma, of course, and it was not a castle.

  4. Wow - what a place that is. It's hard to believe how people survived such a lifestyle. We are so spoiled!

  5. This abode is so intriguing...I do wish I could see inside and how they lived...water collection...shelter ...food prep ...and so forth. They do look very safe up there. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

  6. That´s amazing! I´m in for time-travel and beaming! Just had a beer with a 95-year-old woman, she had so much interesting stuff to tell already. Just imagine going so much back in time as to 1100!

  8. Hi Sharon ~ I just stumbled upon your blog and thought I'd leave a note to say hello! I live in Chandler, so we are kind of neighbors. ;o)

    Your photos are gorgeous!

  9. Nice. This reminds me of Bandelier (I think it was), a national park north and west of Santa Fe, somewhere near Las Cruces. They had caves built into the sandstone cliffs, way up there. These seem more architectural than the ones at Bandelier.

Time travel? Not for me. People today seem to delight in saying how horrible things are, but in most previous times the disease, wars, sanitation, crime, etc., was multiples worse. I'll stay in this period until my body gives out, thank you very much.
