Sky Harbor International Airport

That airplane I featured yesterday was headed here.  This is another telephoto shot taken from a very great distance.  We can only see one terminal here and the airport currently has 3 active terminals.  It's a very busy place, believe me, I spent a lot of time here in the 90's.

  1. I remember the first time I flew in to Phoenix sometime in the 1960s. The airport didn't look anything like this then. They didn't even have those jetways that tunnel you into the terminal. Nope, it was straight down the stairs right onto the tarmac. It was summer and that concrete must have been 180 degrees. I thought I was going to faint right then and there! Actually, it was what was then called Terminal 1, which ceased to exist many years ago! Those mountains still look the same though. Isn't it wonderful that the most important things never change?

  2. The last time I was in that airport was in 1964! But I always liked it. Of course, it was probably a bit smaller then.

Did I tell you I recently bought an iMac? The small one. Works wonderfully. The only problem is getting some of my Windows programs in Mac form installed properly. But that process is coming along.

  3. Haven't flown into Phoenix since the '60's and I imagine I would be totally surprised at the changes~

  4. I remember the old Terminal 1. It reminded me of a bus station. Terminal 4 is huge, yet convenient. Having a 9-level parking garage on top of the terminal means you can reach your car with only an elevator ride, not a long walk, if you are willing to pay the $20 per day short term parking rate.

  6. I remember back in the early 70's, we would go park at the fence by the end of the runway and watch the jets take off right over our heads. I would bet you can't do that anymore.

  7. It looks like it would be a busy airport Sharon, quite a few planes lined up there ready to take off.

  11. I am heading there this weekend. Yeeha! Flying definitely ain't as fun as it used to be though. Sometimes I watch that new TV show called Pan Am just to remember how glamorous it was.

  14. Yes airports are not anymore what they were. My last most enjoyable flight was the first direct flight between London and Phoenix. What a treat!
But it is still a very well organised airport compared to others. And this "cell parking lot" is another treat that we use all the time.
