Saguaro

I attended a meeting on Thursday and Friday in Carefree Arizona and when I was getting ready to leave, I noticed this giant saguaro with it's many arms.  This is truly a big one.

  1. Really amazing. This one has to be quite old.

  2. That really is an odd shaped cactus, and huge, definitely been around for a while I'd say. I love the touches of red in the flowers in the background, and that cute little bench in the front is too gorgeous!!

  3. When one considers that saguaros do not grow an arm until about 80 years, it means that this has to be hundreds and hundreds of years old.

  4. Excellent shot, Sharon! Not only the saguaro shape is fantastic but also the composition is great. Lovely light and colours too.

  5. Love the name of the town/city! Dave's information is interesting. I tip my hat to that giant, ancient saguaro.

  6. Carefree? Sounds like a place I'd like to spend some time in and around.

  8. What an old beauty. Yes, it is pretty sad about the bookstores all over. I just hope Changing Hands in Tempe continues to do well. I just love that store.

  9. That is big! And very low to the ground. He must be very, very old.

  10. It's unusual, to me anyway, to see the arms so low to the ground. It's amazing.

  11. Carefree was just being developed when we moved away. But I always liked it out there and as I recall there was a place that claimed they sold the biggest steaks ever!

This is one heck of a saguaro!

  12. And it looks so pretty with the Mexican bird of paradise blooming behind it and the beautiful sky in the background.

  13. I didn't know that the cacti are so old. That is impressive. I have spent a little time in Carefree. We attended a very good outdoor art exhibition and we stayed at The Boulders, an excellent and unusual resort.
