Peach Faced Love Birds at the Garden



I rarely go to the Desert Botanical Garden during the months of July and August.  It’s just too darn hot.  However, we had a thunder storm last night that cooled things down and it was only 80 degrees when I got up this morning.  So I headed out to see if there was anything interesting to photograph.  I found of group of peach-faced love birds munching on some chocolate daisies.

    Perhaps the peach faced love birds flew over from our yard after getting tired of eating the seeds from the Argentine mesquite trees, which they love and which have recently dropped from our trees.

    i did not know they had these cure birds at the Garden. they have been hanging out in my yard also eating the mesquite tree beans

    We had these guys at home as pets so it is nice to see them out loose in the wild - they are so intelligent and such chewers!!
    You were so lucky to meet the Dalai Lama - an unbelievable experience!

    Randy has been gone from Phoenix long enough to not know that there are quite a few large colonies of these beauties living in the wild in Phoenix. There is a website that tracks where they've been spotted. There were many sightings near my old neighborhood but all I ever saw were pigeons!
