The Sporting House

Another bar in the warehouse district.  This area is within walking distance to the US Airways arena where the Phoenix Sun’s play and the Chase Field where the Arizona Diamondback’s play.  That makes it a good area for bars, restaurants and clubs.

The sign for The Sporting House shows a girl in a baseball cap.

  1. By the light fixtures this looks like the old JB Bayless building down on 7th Street and perhaps Garfield. It's a very historic building and has an interesting plaque on the south side of the building in facing the parking lot.

  2. This district used to be an area for wholesale food warehouses. This is a good reuse of these buildings. I hope that they are successful, as this is a tough market.

I have been to only one of these places, many years ago, Alice Cooperstown, which is owned by Alice Cooper, who is very active in the Phoenix community.

  3. With the sign, one would have to wonder just what kind of "sporting" goes on here. Love this building.

  5. It's great when old buildings get a new lease of life. I've been in Liverpool for a photoshoot today and they've made fantastic use of the old Victorian warehouses by the docks. Funnily enough, most of them are now bars too.

  9. Sharon - I forgot to mention your wonderful comments about the coal & furnaces that you left on Birdman's post. Brought back a lot of memories - my dog would go down into the basement and try to attack the coal as it came through the shute! Luckily he was black anyway.

  10. I am all for re-using old buildings of quality. Brick warehouses have a wide open format that so easily adapts to bars or restaurants.
