Garfield Rising

Across the street from the Alwun House is this art work called Garfield Rising named for the Garfield Neighborhood where it is located. It was created by artist Joe A. Tyler and commissioned through the street transportation capital “percent for arts” program.  It is a beautiful piece depicting the famous Phoenix rising from the ashes.

  2. I've always loved the Phoenix, and this is a beautiful modern interpretation. I especially love the flames.

  3. When I first saw the title of this post I was wondering if it would be about a cat. :-)

  4. Nice! I love the Alwun House. It used to be one of my favorite hang outs in the 80's and 90's. They put on some great plays.

  5. Like Tracy, when I saw your title I was expecting to see a cat.

Naming a city Phoenix does lend it self to a nice theme for logos and art.

  7. It just show where my mind wanders. I also thought it was going to have something to do with a naughty yellow tom cat. But this is splendid. I love the silver sheen on the wings. Now that you mention it, I do remember the Garfield neighborhood.

  9. Okay, I'm really weird because when I read the title I thought of a hot air balloon that looked like Garfield the cat. :) Don't forget, it's good to have some weird friends.
