Flower Farm

On my drive back to Phoenix on Sunday, I passed this flower farm. It made me think of the wonderful Japanese Flower Gardens that used to be situated along baseline road in the 1970’s. It makes me wonder if some of those families moved west to this area.

  2. Those flowers are really on the straight and narrow. Great perspective is correct!

  4. Julie often laments the disappearance of the Japanese Flower Gardens. I moved to Phoenix in 1982 and missed them.

  5. Sharon, if I'm not mistaken these are roses and are grown for the plants not the blossoms. There are a couple of rose growing families out in the west valley. Great picture!

  7. My mom plays bridge with one of the wives of the 'west valley rose growin' families. They have been at it for years, and yes, they are Japanese, too. In the spring, driving down these roads, the perfume of roses is lovely!

  8. Giving me flashbacks to "Jean de Florette" and "Manon of the Spring."

  9. Nice photo. It's hard to believe anything this beautiful grows in the desert.

  10. I miss the Japanese gardens too. In the Spring we would drive down Baseline with the windows rolled down in the evening when the scent was the heaviest. Thanks for the lovely memory from my past.

  12. Anani, It was taken way over on the west side of town, somewhere around 109th Ave and it was either Camelback Road or possibly Indian School Road. Sorry I can't be more specific. It was something I spotted on my way back from a trip to the White Tank Mountains and I didn't really note where it was exactly.
