So, yesterday’s picture wasn’t of olives after all. Those green 'olives' are actually green dates that have fallen from the tree. The Date Palm is a palm in the genus Phoenix. How appropriate for the city of Phoenix, don’t you think? Date Palms are widely cultivated for their edible fruit however, I’m fairly certain this one is just for decoration since it was located on a downtown street.
Around here, you have to watch for falling coconuts!
ReplyDeleteTo Ft. Lauderdale: And to think I used to get upset when I parked under a date tree and found my car covered in sticky dates... Compared to the damage coconuts would cause I guess we don't have it too bad!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Phoenix has dates. I love dates, I usually put dates on my granolla. The dates season will arrive soon here, in September - October.
