I saw this in the window of a tailor's shop and boy did it bring back memories. My grandmother had one very similar to this. I loved watching her use the foot pedal to increase the machine's speed while she was feeding the material through it. I can almost hear the sounds it made.
Anyone else have similar memories?

A memorable sound.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother had one too, I remember 2 of those drawers were full of loose buttons.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother and mother both had one. I remember the sound it made when she was using it.
ReplyDeleteI learned to sew on a treadle machine.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had a sewing machine, but not one that attractive! (And she didn't sew much with it.)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a nostalgic image! I can almost hear that specific whirring sound and the rhythmic "click-clack" of the needle just thinking about it. There was something so mesmerizing about the way grandmothers could control the speed so perfectly with just that foot pedal, it’s like they were conducting an orchestra made of fabric and thread. Those old Singers were built to last forever, weren't they?
ReplyDeleteYes, many memories for me to come flooding back with this image.
ReplyDeleteyes, my mother had one of these when i was growing up. it worked well.
