I noticed that all the prickly pear cactus at the garden last Sunday were simply overloaded with fruit. Native peoples harvested the fruit to make wine, juice and sweets.
Even today you can still find prickly pear cactus candy for sale. You find it mostly in souvenir shops but it's still around.
For anyone who still makes candy or syrups from prickly pear fruit, it looks like this year will be a good harvest.

I doubt I'd get a chance to know what it tastes like.
I have had prickly pear jam, it must be a challenge to pick the fruit.

The Moroccans eat it fresh. Guys in the markets will peel them for you on the spot. They're pretty tasty.
I would love to try the fruit.
You have quite a harvest! I do see the candy and jam for sale, but have never tried it. Often wonder if there's an easy way to remove all the spines.
We have those plants here but I've never tried the frit, maybe I should.
