I attended my first holiday event of the season Friday night. It was at the Desert Botanical Garden and it was the opening night of the "Luminarias." The garden was full of music and lights for everyone to enjoy.
At the entrance they had this living Christmas Tree. It isn't a single tree, it's composed of hundreds of "air plants".
Here's a close-up shot so you can see all the little plants in there. Air plants absorb moisture and nutrients through their leaves instead of their roots so they seem to grow in the air. What a clever way to create a holiday tree.
Later in the evening I was able to get a shot of one of the trails without any people in it. It was a busy night and I wanted to get a shot of the pretty Luminarias lining the trails. However, I did hold up a few people behind me while I took the shot. Lots of people were there to enjoy the festivities. I'll have a few more photos from the event in the next few days.
I have a new post on Sharon's Sojourns today. I'm highlighting the things worth seeing in Arizona.

Are air plants common in Phoenix? Florida has hundreds of varieties
A tree with a difference.
It is every year nice to see the festive lights in dark times.
The tree is certainly different, but I am impressed.
That is a beautiful tree! Very impressive.
I love the tree but especially like that last shot, Sharon.
An impressive and beautiful tree.
So festive and thanks for the posting!
Very creative!
It certainly has begun. I really like the last photo. A thank you to the patient people waiting behind you!
Nice shot of the path. The air-plant tree is a clever idea!
Beautiful photos Sharon, we have air plants here too but I've never seen one single tree made up of lots of little ones, cool idea.
