There is a huge mural in downtown Phoenix that I've wanted to feature on my blog for a long time. I finally got all the facts together along with some photos. It's located on the side of the headquarters for Valley Youth Theater and it's part of a much bigger project called "Water Writes" which is a part of the Estria Foundation. The mural depicts how water is central to the success and prosperity of Arizona. Phoenix was chosen for one of these "Water Writes" murals because of our critical water issues. Other places where a "Water Writes" mural has been located are California, Honolulu, British Columbia, Colombia, El Salvador, Gaza Strip, Philippines and South Africa.
The central figure of the mural is a pregnant woman representing Mother Earth. She is pregnant with twins who represent good and evil which describes the choices we make with our environment and impact those choices will have on future generations.
The mural depicts how we use water in Arizona. Sometimes for farming
And other times for mining. The mural was painted by a team of 15 local artists. It's pretty spectacular.

It IS amazing! I love the wave borders and the way the smoke from the smokestacks forms a skull.
A beautiful mural with an important theme. Something I think about often.
Wow! This is awesome! So very well arranged and painted!
That's really an incredible mural! Not only because of its size but the subject matter. "They" were fighting about water when we lived in Phoenix in the early 60s. But, as you say, it's critical, and one of the keys is to use it wisely, which is always a problem for what some folks this is a wise use of water is wasteful to others.
That is truly spectacular!
It really is fabulous Sharon. So beautifully painted AND with such a strong message, can't get better than that! I'm thinking Perth probably comes under the critical water problems also!
An amazing mural, very creative, colourful and it comes with a strong message. Will people listen to the message, I hope so. Well done in capturing the beauty of this.
It's wonderful, Sharon! Hopefully it has some influence on at least a few people. I'm always afraid that the messages only get through to the converted.
It certainly is impressive.
It is terrific, Sharon. Colorful and interesting and informative and thought-provoking.
Water is going to be the next resource shock, like the oil embargo of 1973. Hold your hat.
This is amazing and spectacular, Sharon !
