Ice Skating in Phoenix
I met my friend Janet for lunch in downtown Phoenix yesterday and I checked out the ice skating rink that is up over the holidays every year. It was a cold day in Phoenix yesterday so there weren't many people out there skating. (I know that skating and cold should go together but, this is Phoenix after all.) There were only six skaters on the rink so I decided to zoom in on the skates instead. The young lady wearing these skates was taking a break for a while.
This young man was brave enough to try skating in his shorts. He is a brave soul. His friend was dressed a little more warmly.

Climate change is interfering with outdoor rinks here.
Skating in shorts! That's so Arizona. :)
I have been looking longingly at my beautiful white skates in one of my closets for years, wishing that I could again zip across the ice as I used to do as a kid. They are still in pretty good shape but I cannot bear to get rid of them. Mine look very different than the modern skates in the bottom photo.
This surely was unexpected, Sharon, skating in the desert...
We have a winter rink, too...for a few weeks in the downtown area. I thought that so strange at first. But the kids love it. Did you do any skating? I'll bet you are good what with growing up in Illinois!
We had a winter ice rink for a few winters, but I am not sure they will set it up again...
Strange to think of skating in Phoenix!
Love the top shot! And that looks like it's real ice. It's fake here and just looks like a bland white surface with no texture whatsoever. Ecological they call it. No good for pics...
As Andy said the warm weather here is interfering with the outdoor rinks - even the artificially cooled ones!
A living oxymoron. Shorts over the ice is a bit much, but then around here it's common to see young men in shorts on chilly days.
Never did it on ice! :-)
