Outstanding shot, Sharon! I would love to watch their arrival in Mexico, it must be something out of this world. Actually I experienced something similar at Angola but it was a mix of butterflies and I never knew exactly what was going on out there. They were millions and we had to cover our heads and faces as we were travelling in open vehicles. I doubt it was a migration but whatever that was it was AWESOME!
Apparently the numbers in eastern N America are a lot lower than normal for some unknown reason. Glad to know that you have a lot of them out there though.
Two exceptional captures, Sharon. I was in Boston today and read an article in the Boston Globe about the reduction in the monarch butterfly population. Go to boston.com and search for monarch butterfly.
How good are they?? I never used to be a big fan of orange ... but there's so many spectacular natural attractions featuring it that now it's one of my favourite colours!

I am glad you have been seeing them. I haven't seen many this year.

The Desert Botanical Garden butterfly pavilion does get a little crowded on the weekends.
We do get some of these gorgeous creatures here, also, but I haven't seen them yet. Wonderful photograph!
Gorgeous shot, what a pair of beauties!
Always a joy to see these lovelies.

Wonderful butterflies!!!
What a beautiful macro, bravo Sharon!
I love that exhibit. Last time I was there I saw a kid kill one. His mom was so mad.
Stunning shots, their markings are a work of art.

Will the butterflies still be around in a couple of weeks? I'm planning on a visit.
