David and I went to dinner Thursday night and when we were leaving we saw this old fashioned bicycle parked out front. It wasn't there when we arrived so someone must have ridden it there. I would have liked to have seen that.

Oh, that's cool!
I admire anyone that can even attempt to get on one of these things
Sure would be fun to own a bike like this one.
I see many bicycles around here, but I have never seen anyone ride a bike like that. The earliest American bicycles were made in Hartford.
I can't imagine someone riding it nor can I imagine that someone did not steal it! It's got to be valuable!
My butt's sore just looking at this image.
At first I thought that bike was pretty cool but then I thought about the temps in Phoenix right now. Not so cool perhaps.
Now that is unexpected. We saw one on one of the lake trails here once and the young lady was moving right along on it. They don't look easy to ride.
I wonder if its like riding an ordinary bicycle. Very curious about the person who was riding this.
I don't see any lights or reflectors for riding at night.
What a classic!
What a great photo subject...not something I might run into here in Ohio! I love this bike! Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
Did you know they are now called Penny-farthings?
From Wikipedia:
They are now most commonly known as "penny-farthings", this term was probably not used until they were nearly outdated; the first recorded print reference is 1891 in Bicycling News. It comes from the British penny and farthing coins, one much larger than the other, so that the side view resembles a penny leading a farthing.[4]
Roseann, thanks for the info. I didn't know that. Very interesting.
What a shot it would have been to catch the rider arriving at the restaurant!
You should have taken it for a spin. Now that would be a great photo op.
Oh yes that would have been fun Sharon..I did see someone riding one here, just looked so peculiar ...and tricky :)
Me too I wish Sharon :)) It's beautiful!
I'm here without your permission.
A kiss from Béjar.Salamanca. Spain.
This is so other century. Love it!
It must be fun looking at someone riding it...
When I lived in Scottsdale once upon a time (early 70's) I bought a new ten speed bike to ride around. The bike shop (on Scottsdale Boulevard, don't remember the name) also had a row of these in the store. I was tempted to get one instead of the ten speed, but figured I would be falling too much, and that was a little high. I also don't know what the rider does at all of the red lights.
