Design for a Living World
There is an interesting exhibit at the Desert Botanical Garden right now called "Design for a Living World". It features several well known designers who have used sustainable materials from around the world to recreate everyday objects. The photo above is of a lounge chair made from metal and bamboo. I also saw some shoes and a dress made from salmon leather and designed by Isaac Mizrahi and a handbag designed by Kate Spade made from rosewood. My favorite thing was the chocolate from Costa Rica and the handy little grater that you grate the chocolate into, tip it over into a cup of hot water, and then use it to stir the chocolate to make a nice cup of hot chocolate. Now that is a handy tool. To see more about the exhibit, click this Link to the Nature Conservancy.

Sharon, next time you come over we will have to get out the Costa Rican chocolate that we brought back from our last trip there and have some hot chocolate.
You are so funny! I like the chocolate and the grater, too! Not so sure this lounge chair would be very comfy, though.
I marvel at this kind of art. Using one's resources and intuition to create something like this from inception to completion is amazing.....and the fact that it is functional is even better.
An artistic chair, very nice to watch, but not very comfortable to sit, I think...
I doubt that you were able to sit in the chair, and I wonder if it is really comfortable? Interesting examples of human creativity.
It looks a little like a massage chair, could be fun!! The chocolate sounds even more fun though Sharon, hot chocolate is good at any time.
They always have such interesting things going on there. I would like to try out that strange looking chair.
It's the type of exhibit that makes us all think a bit about the things we use!
Looks like a great exhibit.
Very creative. I wonder if it's comfortable.
I like exhibitions like this. They can stretch your imagination a bit. This chair? I am not seeing a comfortable nap coming on . . .
Love this chair, it's fantastic!
A massage chair for collectors...
The exhibit must have been fun.
