More Prickly Pear

Over the last two days, I've pictured two different prickly pear cactus. Now compare those two with this thorny one. I'm not sure of the official name for this one, but with those long, bold thorns, this one is completely different from the two I pictured before. Regardless of whether the cactus has long, thick thorns, or tiny, microscopic thorns, it's a good idea not to get too close to either kind.

Good advice. Some of the cacti actually look inviting (deceptive little devils) but this variety looks positively menacing.

Hi Sharon...is this the cacti that swells up inside your skin if it sticks you? That was nasty stuff!

At least this one says "I mean business!"

No deception here, this one says "stay away" loud and clear.

Like lions, tigers, and bears, cacti look more friendly in photographs than they do in real life. As someone who has stepped on more than one, I prefer to see them in pictures, but, as always, your photographs bring out the best in them.

You know I could only love the last posts, Sharon! :-)
Sadly I had to give up keeping my different species of Prickly Pears as they have grown too much...

These plants do not camouflage their weapons.
