Defeated Once Again

Ten years ago today, I posted that the British grocery company Tesco was opening a series of stores in the United States called Fresh & Easy.  Sadly, Fresh & Easy didn't last very long in the U.S. market.  All of the U.S. stores were closed by 2015.  I drove over to the old neighborhood to snap this photo and found that old store was now occupied by something called Natural Grocers.  I'm not familiar with them.

Yes shops come and go....

Some retailers seem to lose when they leave their home turf. Same thing happen to TARGET in Canada.

Yes it seems that some stores don't cross borders easily. Krispy Kreme had the same problem here - they started with a boom and now there are just a couple of them left around town.

That happens, especially when the long term shops are well established.

Changes are normal here too...

At least it's still a Natural food store. We have Sprouts which is great.

Changes are happening here too. One popular butcher shop here in town (we still have two) closed it doors and went out of business after the owners retired. A hair salon is now located in the same space. I find it weird when I walk by and see it. :)

Tesco has their ups and downs and are rumoured to be opening a budget type supermarket soon

Things come and go so much these days Sharon, retail is so competitive.

That Fresh & Easy expansion was quite a disaster for Tesco, from what I've read. Groceries are such a competitive business.
