Time to Schmooze

When I was in Scottsdale last week for the grand opening of XO Confections (the chocolate place), I noticed something new just across the street.  The first thing that struck me was the beautiful entrance adorned with flowers everywhere.

So I went over to investigate and saw from the sign out front that is was some type of cafe.

I stepped through those gates and discovered a little oasis where tables sat among all the flowers and fountains and people where having coffee and tea while working at their laptops.  I went inside to explore further and learned that it is designed to be a workspace and cafe.  People can come in to this relaxing atmosphere and work on their computers while enjoying something to eat and drink.

There were several sections inside but this one really got my attention.  Each of those "booths" on the wall is a workspace that can be rented by the hour if you need to do some serious work.  Or you can bring your own computer and work at one of those tables in one of those comfy looking office chairs.  The counter serves coffee, tea, smoothies and small treats and will soon add sandwiches and salads to the menu.  What a great looking place.  It's called Schmooze Workspace and Cafe.

The person who designed this place should be given an award of excellence! I don't understand people who work on their computers in public spaces as I'd find the spaces very distracting. But I see people doing it all the time. Love the floor here and those chairs. It's all quite beautiful.

It has become a real issue here where people bring their computer to a cafe, buy 1 coffee, and spend hours working away. Meanwhile all of the tables are taken and no one else can get a seat. A lot of places have been taking out the wifi or shutting it off at certain times.

It looks quite welcoming.

What a great idea! The second photo reminds me of a restaurant I used to go to in New York, called Telephone, which was lined with those British phone booths. Apparently these cooperative workspaces are quite the thing. That courtyard looks wonderful!

What a great looking place. I love the idea that you can rent a space if you need to do some serious work. The garden looks like a lovely place to sit and have something to drink and eat.

Wow - |I want to bring my camera and laptop here. The workspaces in the walls look like British "call boxes", the old telephone booths. The flowery entrance and patio is a work of art.

What a nice place. When I am trying to take photographs, dappled light like this drives me nuts, but "in real life" dappled light has a special charm. I sometimes wonder if my camera has turned me into a nut.
