Arrival of the Pony Express

I went to Scottsdale yesterday see the arrival of the pony express riders on their annual 200 mile run from Holbrook Arizona to Scottsdale.

This was the 60th anniversary for the group who have been staging the express ride and delivering real mail once a year for the past 60 years.  (I loved this horse with the white face.)

They stop in several towns along the way and drop off and pick up sacks of mail that has been hand postmarked for this special run.  The riders are part of the Navajo County Sheriff's Posse.

The actual pony express only operated for 19 months moving mail from the east coast to the west coast until the telegraph was established.

The Pony Express only ran for 19 months?! I did not know that!

Kind of warm this year for the ride. I saw video from the chopper guy on the news of the horses running along the roadway.

Looks like great fun, at least for the riders, if not for the horses. A good example of how technology changes things! This raised a question: Is Hal Holbrook still living?

I would not mind photographing them as well!!

This is a great tradition so I’m really glad you went all to take these pictures to share!
Their shirts are amazingly still white after the ride!

Was there one in AZ? I just know about the one from St. Joseph, MO, into Kansas.

What a super event Sharon, those horses are just too gorgeous, it seems quite unusual to see a horse with a white face like this?
