A Covey of Quail

There is a spot near the patio cafe at the Desert Botanical Garden where I like to sit for a while.  It's a quiet spot.  Not many people know how to get there so I'm usually on my own and can enjoy the nature around me without any distractions.

The tables and chairs in that quiet spot sit under a big cascalote tree which happens to bloom during the winter months.  So in addition to the solitude, there is a sweet scent in the air produced by these wonderful yellow blooms.

When I was there last week, I had to share the spot with a covey of quail who were very busy eating the blooms that had fallen from the tree.  So the blooms not only smell good, they must taste good too.  They tasted so good, that the quail didn't seem to mind sharing the spot with me.

Beautiful photo moments, Sharon! I love the yellow blossom against that amazing blue desert sky!

Wow, those are beautiful quail! They look bigger and more colorful than the ones I used to see as a kid in Florida.

Such pretty birds. I wouldn't mind sharing my spot with them.

Well! They're jaunty little birds Sharon, how very haute couture is the feather detail 😀😀 love the idea of sitting in the shade of a sweet smelling blossom tree!

Now that looks like fun. I've heard of eating quail (in fact my uncle used to hunt them), but I've never heard of eating WITH quail! I think I can smell those blossoms, too!

I love those birds. When we lived just outside of Old Cottonwood some years back we had a wood pile out a ways from our rear patio and we used to love to sit there and watch them parade around. The dominant male always finds the highest spot to perch and chirp to the others, warning them if a predator appears.

Fascinating to see. I don't think I have ever seen quail out in nature.
