Copper Dome

Our state capital building isn't the only building in the valley with a copper dome.  This newish shopping destination in Mesa has one too!  Actually it has two but I only took a photo of one of them.  This shopping complex was just beginning to be built when I moved away from Mesa 12 years ago.  And, it was within walking distance from my old house.  Since I moved to Phoenix before it was finished, I never got to enjoy its proximity or its stores.  Sometimes when I find myself in Mesa, I'll stop by for a look around.

I wonder how much a copper roof costs? It can't be cheap!

Interesting that the copper has retained it's original colour. There are old churches here with copper roofs and over time the environment turns them green.

Looks nice. I wouldn't have guessed it was at a shopping mall. That gorgeous blue sky makes a nice background for it.

It'll take, I think, a year or so before that fades to brown, and many years later it starts taking on a green tone.

I just signed a petition to stop a company from mining copper in Arizona.

Nice photo, though, of an interesting dome. More interesting that most other domes I see around here!

That's pretty unusual for a shopping centre Sharon, I've seen many a Greek Orthodox Church with a copper dome, but never a shopping centre :)

Pretty flashy for a shopping centre, Sharon!

The building has clean sharp lines that make the dome look even more grand and impressive. Nice composition, too.

The copper dome in the picture is gorgeous. It hasn't oxidized to green yet and the burnish red glows against the blue sky in the background. I wonder how it has retained the original color. Copper roofs are really eye-grabbing. This building stands out and elevates the entire neighborhood. Different building materials really do capture the imagination. Love it.
