Learning Experience

Adding to the crowds I experienced last Friday at the Desert Botanical Garden were several school groups there to learn about the plants of the desert. This group was listening to a teacher talk about the growth cycle of the big saguaro cactus.

It was also cleaning day for the Chihuly sculptures.  While I was taking these photos, someone asked this fellow if they ever break one of the glass pieces.  He said "no, never."

It's fun to watch how carefully they remove the desert dust from these wonderful works of art.

School field trips are great learning experiences, and students are so lucky to be able to participate. Regarding Chihuly: can you imagine cleaning these treasures?!

Those sculptures are amazing. The guy must have super-gentle hands!

I've always thought glass to be so fragile...maybe these are more hardy than I would think them to be. Very pretty, whatever!

That first photo: Ugh! I hated field trips when I was a teacher, although this one would have a strong educational component. We used to take kids from south Florida to Orlando to visit Disney World! It was awful!!!

Cleaning the Chihuly sculptures is a dangerous job...

I can imagine that would be a popular place for field trips. I've got a series starting up tomorrow at a place that's very popular for students as well.

The glass really loves being out in the sun!

I bet they're not as easy to break as they look. Still, that seems like kind of a hard job!
