Doors!

Standing on the corner of Scottsdale Road and Camelback Road is this sculpture called simply "Doors".

It was created by artist Donald Lipski in 2007 and made of Brazilian hardwood, forged steel and polished stainless steel.

The piece was inspired by a quote from William Blake:
"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite."

This is located very near the Scottsdale Waterfront and is a gift of the Scottsdale Waterfront Commercial LLC.

The polished steel part of this sculpture is on the inside.  You can see part of it in this photo.

Here is another view of the polished side that I took looking between the two doors.

I went inside between the two doors and pointed my camera straight up and this is the image I got.  It almost looks like there is a glass bauble hanging on the inside but there isn't.  It's just the illusion from the small opening and that polished steel.

Now that is very unique. I like it a lot. And the intent (message)!

How cool. I love that kaleidoscope effect on the inside. Amazing how the artist could envision creating that with those shiny surfaces.

Sometimes, but not really often, I really like contemporary art: this is one of those rare cases!

That's a case where modern art really works well!

wow! I love this art work! The last shot really does suggest the infinite possibilities beyond our perceptions!

I like it too but I couldn't help thinking that when a developer covets that parcel of land the sculpture will probably disappear.

I remember this piece of public art from when we were there a few years ago. It certainly catches your attention. Nice to see it again!

I will always puzzle over the motivation behind an artist's creative expression.

It is a pretty good sculpture. I would never expect the mirrored effects in what is otherwise a fairly rustic form.
