Rubbish and Fire

On Saturday I located the last three historic neighborhoods that I needed to photograph for my series and one of those neighborhoods was located in an area that was pretty run down.  I'll say more about that when I get to that neighborhood in my series.  While I was driving around I noticed that there was quite a lot of trash piled up in various places and I realized that it was a neighborhood clean-up project.  The city does that in designated areas upon the request of residents and then hauls away all the trash at once.

I decided that since we city daily photo bloggers are always picturing our cities in the best possible light, it doesn't hurt to show some of the less desirable sights.  This pile of rubbish was particularly big so I snapped a photo of it.

A little way away from the first shot, I found this house or building all boarded up after what looks like a fire.  I hope no one was hurt when that happened.

I think we all have parts in our towns that are less desirable, but it's always interesting to get a peak of them.

That is a seriously imposing mound of rubbish!

I always find trash sort of interesting. When I was doing Bleeding London I often photographed large pieces of trash or furniture sitting out on the street.

All towns have them!

Your photos are so good, they even make trash look respectable. Then we lived in Tempe, I remember some very trashy areas there.

That is a lot of trash, Sharon!

Dirty underbellies are a matter of fact. All pretty places have them.

Sharon, I agree with you and hope that all of us are sensitve to both the highlights and low points of our cities. I love to see all aspects of a town or area.

That is quite the mound of rubbish! But it's good they have those haul away days. Here you have to find some way to get it to the dump yourself.

It will take a big truck to pick up all of that trash.

You're right. It is a good thing to show both sides of a city. Prescott is a lovely city with a beautiful courthouse square. But "The Square" is frequently inhabited by homeless people just looking for a park bench or a piece of grass to sleep on in the shade.

I agree with you, sometimes is right to show the worse...

STL ought to do this. Heaven knows we have plenty of vacant lots.

You know I'm all for less desirable sights, i.e. my decay series! :-)
Glad it's a clean-up project though.

Ouch. But, you are right. We do need to show less desirable parts of our cities from time to time. I do it, but less often than I should.

Thanks for your visits while I was in France. Sorry that I was unable to visit your blog while I was away. Free time was scarce and the internet access was terrible!
