Lion in the Garden

I think this lion might be a slightly happier than the lion I featured yesterday.  This one is standing guard near the gate to a Paradise Valley home.  He has all those plants and flowers around him so his duty is a little less tedious.  I would have taken a photo of the home he protects but the gate was solid so I couldn't actually see the house.

I wonder why lions are so popular in outdoor decor.

Lions are probably seen as protectors and as a symbol of courage.
This one seems to be particularly happy.

He reminds me of Aslan.

That's a lush looking garden for being in an arid place. I wonder how much water they use to keep it looking like that.

Ok, point taken. I'll sell vacuum cleaners at the next house.

He does look very noble peering over the flowers!

He's still awfully serious, though.

What is the deal with lions standing guard outside houses? I see it all the time here in England, and I've always wondered why. Does it have something to do with the lion as a royal symbol, and if so, why are they in the states as well? Just cultural connection?

Looks like this King belongs there and is making sure that "private" really means it.

You're going to have to find all the lions in Phoenix now!
