Avoiding the crowds

After Friday at the zoo and Saturday at the food and wine event, I opted for a quieter Sunday.  I took a drive out to Carefree Arizona and strolled around the town center.  That's where I found this indoor shopping center where almost all the shops were closed up.  Some of them were closed for Sunday but, a good number of them were just plain empty.  It struck me that this was a rather ornate shopping area that may have lost it's appeal.

I was looking for quiet and I found it.

Lovely to have a bit of quiet Sharon but that space really should be used, I think it looks so pretty with all those arches, wonder why it's almost empty.. rents too high maybe?

Although it's nice to have peace and quiet on a Sunday, I hope it's a bit livlier during the week. It would be a shame for the whole center to shut down.

It looks like a nice place. Strange to find it so empty.

It is rather spooky being so empty, Sharon!

The stairs would kill it for me.

That's a shame, it's a beautiful space that reminds me of Spain!

I do like those stairs. If it's more than just that day being an off day for business, the owners are going to have to do some serious work on saving the place.

Looks peaceful.

Dead malls are sad, romantic places. We have a few but they are all empty and enclosed. No way to get in. This one is far more ornate.

This mall seems to have quite a charm. Quietness is good for individual but does not seem too good for business.

Nice looks a quiet place to go

Oh, yikes. Kind of depressing. There's nothing sadder than a deserted shopping center -- especially one this ornate and intrinsically hopeful!

I like that symmetrical image. I have seen several shopping centers like this, which started out popular and busy and fell on hard times. There is one near me that is making a strong comeback.
