A room full of flowers

On Saturday afternoon, I joined some friends to go to an event I knew nothing about before this invitation.  It was the National Chrysanthemum Society's Show.  I had never heard of such a thing before a friend asked if I wanted to go.  She had heard about it from another friend who heard about it from a neighbor who was a member of the society.  So off we all went not knowing what to expect.

There are 30 chapters of this organization and there is one national show every year.  This year it was hosted by the Phoenix Chrysanthemum Society.

The shapes and sizes and varieties of these flowers was mind boggling.

I learned that there are 13 different bloom forms that were being judged, simple things like "Pompom" and "Spider" were easy to understand but, "Irregular Incurve" and "Reflex" were less easy to spot.

The one above was one of my favorites however, choosing a favorite with all that beauty around was not an easy task.  I'm so glad I had an opportunity to see these beauties and enjoy the enthusiasm of all the people in the room who were there to view and discuss each of the varieties.

In addition to the judging of the single blooms that I've shown today, there was also judging for design where the flowers were woven into arrangements in different categories.  Tomorrow I'll show you some of the arrangements I photographed.

I guess when it comes to this festival, "Mum's the word!" Glad you got to go, though!

Give me my flowers wild in a plentiful garden. I'll pass on vases. hahahaha
For sure though, glad you got to attend. Must have been aromatic.

These don't look anything like the sad little blooms that I grow in my sad little flower bed. Beautiful pictures!

We visited an orchidarium once in Mexico and I was amazed how many varied types of orchids there are. Same with chrysanthemums, I guess.

Beautiful chrysanthemums! I never heard of this show before. What an excellent idea to let them be discovered.
My favorites would be the ones on your first picture, They look like huge mushrooms.

I used to think that mums were "old lady" flowers and seldom bought them, but these photos have changed my mind. Beautiful variety and what a treat to see the show of them.
