Building Materials

When I was at the garden on Sunday morning, I caught this little cactus wren gathering some fibers from this cactus to "feather" his next.  These little birds are very enterprising when it comes to nest building.  They are always on the lookout for the right materials to make that nest just perfect.

Great portrait of this industrious little bird! We have a mailbox by the side of the road with a space underneath for newspapers. For the past several months it has held a bird nest in which wee birds were being raised. There was a time whenever I'd go get the mail, the air would fill with screeching - I think from momma bird!

I have seen children eating cotton candy that look a lot like this little bird.
