Foothills Homes

Last fall I took a Sunday afternoon drive in a north Scottsdale area that I don't visit very often.  The streets tend to be crooked and running in odd directions as they make their way over the ripples of foothills terrain.  These homes are on the edges of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and many of them are large and luxurious places but, there are a few more modest homes in the mix too.  The one above caught my eye because of the bright desert-orange wall and that large blue vase in front.  I like that sort of southwestern look.

The one above is clinging to the side of the mountain with a a large and long deck running around it.  They must have some fabulous views from up there.

This one is more "California" style with a gated drive that leads to a circular area with an attractive  fountain in the center.

All of these homes are attractive and I can admire them but, I wouldn't want to live that far away from all the amenities I have near me like museums, theaters and restaurants.  This isn't a neighborhood where you can walk to the grocery store or a neighborhood pub.

Reminder:  The theme for June 1 is "Zest".

I have a new post on Sharon's Sojourns today.  A visit one the best modern art museums in the U.S. is in order.

All three wonderful homes Sharon, can just imagine the views would be stunning from the house set in the cliff, but like you I like to be closer to the action :)

They are nice! I would love to see the views from the one on the side of the mountain.

These are not ticky-tack cracker boxes! What gorgeous places...even the first one with the adobe wall. Very nice.

I love that first one but like you I like to be able to walk to everything I need!

That second one, I'm thinking that if you have rockfall from above, you're in a real jam. Beautiful places!

Love the low profile yet eye-catching look of the top one. Definitely my favourite.

The house with the bright orange wall is the one that catches my eye. I have lived in the city and in suburbs but -- at least since I have been an adult -- have never lived way out. They all have pluses and minuses. I do see why you like your in-town living.

Yes, Dahlia was relatively tall, so she kept up with me pretty easily. But, I think the real reason is that she is young and I am old!

The kind of place that it would be nice if friends bought so that you could pop in from time to time rather than have to live there yourself.

I do like the top one the best, but I bet you're right about the views from the middle one!

Three very different structures. I, too, want to be close to restaurants, libraries, shops, and neighborhood culture.
