Indian Fair & Market, part 2

Julius Badoni lives in Phoenix has his own unique style of painting and drawing.  He told me about the work of art behind him that he said was a bit of an experiment.  He painted it on an old discarded screen, the kind we used to view home movies and slide shows on.  He painted the figure of General Custer in the center and has hand gestures that represent shadows produced on a screen as if people were gesturing into the light stream being projected.  On one side are hostile gestures on on the other side are positive gestures.  He packed a lot of power into this experiment!

The painting on the left was a ribbon winner at this show.  You might notice that the clouds are shaped like the two American continents.  He told me that represents how people tend to migrate with the seasons.  And, I'm sure we've all seen those shoes thrown over power lines.  He's added that same scene only he has made the shoes moccasins instead of running shoes.  Laying on the table is a smaller painting that is his interpretation of a rug pattern than his mother, a weaver made.  Julius was a very interesting person to talk to.  I hope I run into him again.

Monte Yellow Bird, Sr. is decked out in a traditional Native American costume.  Mr. Yellow Bird is a mixed media artist, storyteller, and an educational consultant.  I told him that he was every bit as beautiful as his artwork.  Don't you agree?

More to come tomorrow.

Quite surprising to see Darth Vader in one of Julius' paintings! :-) Love Mr. Yellow Bird's costume.

We did not make it to the Indian Market this year, but I am glad that the weather improved for it on Sunday.

They both do beautiful work... a bit unusual to see Vader seemingly being benign with a hummingbird. I really like that Custer painting.

Love the trainers beneath the mocs! And his ledger art which I'm a fan of. I didn't know Julius Badoni, thanks for making me discover his art.

I noticed the sneakers beneath his chair, too. Funny! I'll bet Badoni could have some fun with that.

Mr. Yellow Bird Senior is quite an ornament all by himself.

The General Custer painting is wonderfully symbolic.
