Farming in the city

Before I went to the museum event I posted about yesterday, I stopped at The Farm at South Mountain, an organic farming complex located within the city limits on the far south side of town.  In addition to farming, there are restaurants that serve fabulous meals.  In fact, I posted about one of the restaurants way back in January of 2009.  Between the rows of vegetables growing were row after row of these gorgeous flowers called Zulu Prince Daisies.

Here is a patch of lettuce growing quite beautifully and a little further on are green onion and garlic plants.

The farm also has some rather fancy chickens.  To the left is a close up of the rooster who was prancing around in his pen full of hens and letting out an occasional crow or two.

That is quite a headdress on that rooster! The daisy looks like a type of gerbera, maybe?

That's an amazing place! I'd be down there all the time! That flower shot is so beautiful - looks almost surreal. And the chicken (rooster) - he takes the cake or the hen as the case may be!

I have never been there in my 32 years of living in the Phoenix area. I need to go.

Beautiful daisy.

I remember when there were fields growing food all over Phoenix. It has changed drastically since then. That is a perfect name for that exotic looking daisy.
Love that rooster. I have found that it is very difficult to get a good picture of a chicken as they don't hold still.

I love the rows of luscious lettuce, Sharon! My hair often looks like that rooster's when I get up in the morning.

Now that looks a bit like a slice of heaven! The flower is gorgeous, from the thumbnail I thought it was a passion flower!

Some photographic variety today, with the macro of the flower (nice!) and the rows of lettuce (also nice!).

Oh, those roosters certainly need lots of attention.
