Out for a drive

I took a little drive yesterday way north of Phoenix past the towns of Cave Creek and Carefree.  I was out to find some native American ruins that I saw on my Arizona atlas.  When I first moved to Arizona, this area was way, way out of town and I would have traveled quite a distance in the desert foothills once I passed Carefree.  Today it's all grown up.  There were subdivisions and golf courses all the way to the border with Tonto National Forrest.  This is one of the subdivisions I passed along the way.  It's called Tonto Hills.

There were lots of houses in the area, some of them climbing up the hillside to command a nice view.  This was one of the houses I passed.

More on my hike to the ruins tomorrow.

Amazing sights, and that B I G sky makes such a spectacular backdrop too!

I hope you took plenty of water and a hat if you were spending any time outdoors during the day yesterday.

What a spectacular lighting display we had last night in Phoenix/Scottsdale..

Frank L. Wright would be happy with this one, I'd wager.

I LOVE the house! And the sculpture is way too cool. Glad you included the Yuccas in the first shot.

The Native American art is interesting and intriguing and the house is beautiful. The area certainly has grown! I am always dismayed to see the presence of golf courses in the Southwest because of the drought and water problems. Doesn't make sense to me.

I like that artwork standing tall. You were lucky to have a beautiful blue sky with those puffy white clouds.

That house reminds me of the McCuen mansion in Scottsdale/Phoenix/Paradise Valley.

That was a gorgeous area 50 plus years ago. We would drive north of Scottsdale (where we lived) to Carefree where there was a restaurant that served huge slabs of beef - can't remember the name now, though. Love that house!

I have stayed at Carefree and attended a big outdoor art festival there. At the time it was the end of civilization.
