Night Bloomer

Friday when I was leaving The Hermosa Inn after lunch, my cell phone rang and not wanting to drive while talking, I pulled on to a side residential street and stopped the car to answer the phone.  The area is  full of large homes on very large lots mostly with desert landscape.  While I was sitting there, I noticed this night bloomer cactus in one of the yards with all those buds just ready to burst open.

Friday evening was our first 2013 meeting of the "Art Challenge" club at Julie (Scottsdale Daily Photo) and Dave's (Tamarindo Costa Rica Daily Photo) house in Scottsdale so I thought on my way home, I'll drive by here again and see how many of those buds have opened.

It was a tricky shot to get because it was very dark on this street and aiming the camera was.....well....tricky.  On the third shot, I finally got the whole cactus.   All the while I was hoping the owners of the home wouldn't get frightened by the camera flashes in their front yard and call the police.  (The house was completely dark so they were either in bed or not home.)

Wasn't it well worth the risk?  What a beautiful sight this is and virtually no one would have seen it if I hadn't snuck back there to get the shot!

Spectacular, especially the night shot. Very daring!

The photo was worth but it was still risk business.

It's a good thing that you thought to go back at dark.

I'll give you credit! That had to be a little nerve-wracking but yes, it was definitely worth the effort. The first picture is very nice and gives a good sense of how the desert can bloom gloriously...but the second shot is very, very good...the exposure is right on perfect colors and the whites are detailed. I'm impressed. Did you use the on-camera flash?
