Game Night

I went to a Phoenix Suns's Basketball game with my friend Janet Thursday night and used the opportunity to test the 42X telephoto lens on the new camera.  I took the above shot from my seat in the 11th row.  Not bad!  That's Marcin Gortat in the photo.  He always begins a game with the trainer doing some leg stretches on the floor of the court.  His expression makes it look like it doesn't feel so good.  We have some players with unusual names on the team this year; Marcin Gortat, Goran Dragic, Hakim Warrick, Diante Garrett, and Markieff Morris.  As I heard the announcer call off the names at various times, I was reminded of the bar scene (my favorite scene, by the way) in the movie "Star Wars".

The photo to the left is from the opening extravaganza that happens right before the start of the game.  They usually have a lot of fire in this part of the show but, they didn't on Thursday.  Maybe that shooting fire isn't good for the TV cameras.

42X zoom? Wow! Is this the same camera your friend Julie has?

Well, that first shot is superb! I thought he'd taken a bad fall and you were there! That's one heck of a zoom!

Looks like you've got a fine lens there.

Your comment reflects how international the NBA has become, as it attracts players from all over the world.

I remember stopping in at a restaurant in Florence, Italy, for lunch and the waiter asked where we are from. I said Phoenix, Arizona, and he said it was too bad that the Phoenix Suns lost their game last night, as he had watched it on TV.

Wow! I am impressed. I was looking at that camera a Costco yesterday and the thing I liked the best about it was how compact it all is even with that long lens. It beats lugging around my big 300mm lens.

Gosh a 42X zoom, that's fantastic Sharon, nothing is going to be safe from you now, no matter how far away they are haha! The first shot looks like you weren't that far from your target at all.

Memphis also has an NBA team. When I took my good camera, they wouldn't let me in (made me check it at customer service). Said I might sell photos on ebay which about the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Glad to see that your arena is more sensible.

I'm impressed by the camera too!
There always seems to be a lot of drama at NBA games.

Those are some wicked names. Jabba must have been ill for this game... Excellent reach on this lens

Cool. Hard to get a sharp images in sporting situations. That's why they have lenses the size of a small car. You did really well.
