Building a Dome

I could have used this photo for my “Under Construction” theme day photo if I had seen it in time.  I just saw this church being constructed from a distance and drove over to get a closer look.  It ‘s called the Light of the World Church and it’s a nondenominational Christian Church being built on the west side of Phoenix very close to Interstate 10.  I don’t know much more about it except that it is going to be huge.

How interesting that it's roof is shaped like a dome, which I think is unusual for a Christian church - isn't it?

It'll be fun to see what it looks like after completion...I guess that's a reequest!

This is an excellent "under construction" image. Having the workers up there really gives us a sense of scale.

I hope those workers are tied off for fall protection.

At first sight I thought they were re-roofing the capital dome. Nice shot!

It will be interesting to see what they cover the dome in after they get the plywood on.

I've seen this from the freeway! Wondered what it was. Thanks for finding out.

A lot of these new Christian churches seem to be huge - one wonders where the $$ come from.

I saw it the other day and took a few pics too. It was almost completely covered by then.

It is huge especially considering it is a nondenominational church.

I expect to see the finished building in a few more months. Have a nice weekend, Sharon.

Construction projects like this are so fascinating!

I have to admit, though, that I like the radial frame better than the part already clad in stone. :p

It would have been a great entry on the 'Under Construction' theme, but it's a great shot for any other day. The cover of the dome looks like cork but I don't think it would survive a summer in Phoenix. Well, actually, cork trees live in the hottest region in Portugal where temperatures easily reach 40ºC, so... :-)

No comment other than it appears to be a unique structure...

These mega-churches sure are becoming popular these days. This one is very original with that dome! The only other church I've seen with a dome is the Greek orthodox church here in LR, but it's minuscule compared to this one!
