Spring Training

I have a guest photographer today. Marcella Vitulli took this shot at Phoenix Municipal Stadium at one of the last Spring Training games of the season between the Oakland A’s and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Spring Training in Arizona draws crowds throughout the month of March and brings a lot of die-hard fans to the state.

About 15 years ago, I worked on a project in Chicago that took a little over 2 years to complete. I was in Chicago all week and flew home to Arizona for the weekend. I remember when I’d fly home on March weekends, the plane would be full of Cubs fans, some dressed in full cubs uniforms, heading to Phoenix to catch a game.  Every now and then, the pilot would say something about all the cubs fans on board and the plane would erupt in cheers.

Thanks Marcella for sharing this great shot!

Great photo and post. Spring training camps are quite popular with many MLB fans.

And the Cubs fans especially cheer at the beginning of Cubs spring training games when the announcer gives the current, warm local temperature ad then announces what the much colder temperature is in Chicago.

I do enjoy a Spring Training game now and then. And, hey, Cubs fans need SOMETHING to cheer about. LOL. (Sorry I couldn't resist. I grew up a Cardinals fan.)

Spring training is one of my favorite times of year in Phoenix. There's nothing quite like taking the light rail down to Phoenix Muni and enjoying a day in the sun! Thanks for the kind words and for featuring this shot, Sharon!

That is the one thing I miss about living in the city, going to a D-backs game. Sound like that was a fun plane ride.
