Theme Day: Wood

This table has been in my family a very long time. I am told that it was hand made by my great-great-grandfather and it has been passed down from generation to generation. It now resides in my dining room. Sometimes I look at it and try to imagine all the places its been and the changes that have taken place around it. After all, it has lived from the days of oil lamps and Victrolas to the present days of cell phones and iPods. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

I have to confess that I don't think I have noticed and admired this during the times that you have had Julie and me over for dinner. It is probably because we have been too distracted by your delicious cooking.

I wonder at all the different things that must have been kept in the drawers over all those years. You've taken excellent care of it. It's a beauty.

It's a very charming, antique piece of wood! I love old, wooden antiques!

The lamp is especially nice too and I imagine is a photo of its own.

Old furniture does have a history. I have two small chairs that my great-grandfather made and are now in my home. I have done the same thing wondering about the many people who have sat in these chairs.

Have you ever seen the movie "The Red Violin"? TYour thoughts remind me of it.

One of the things I love about antiques is imagining who owned them before. One of my ex-husbands used to say we are given beautiful old things to care for for the next generation and you are obviously doing this. A lovey piece of furniture and one that is so obviously cherished.

I can still see it in our Grandparents house! Such a sweet little table. The lamp looks right at home there.

Ah Sharon, I have a bench that was made by my great-grandfather, it has survived two world wars in Germany and half a century of communism. It isn't the most beautiful bench in the world yet I wouldn't trade it for the moon.

Hold on to it, you obviously cherish it, fantastic post!
