Abstract Crown Dancer

Here is a another sculpture from the Allan Houser exhibit. This one is called "Abstract Crown Dancer". The name of the entire exhibit at the Desert Botanical Garden and at the Heard Museum is "Tradition to Abstraction" and it celebrates Allan Houser's work as it evolved from the more traditional pieces like "Homeward Bound" that I featured two days ago, to a gradual change into distinctly abstract sculpture. This piece combines a little of both worlds. Tomorrow I'll show you a piece that is truly abstract.

It's identifiable as a person, at least. But I would have thought it a warrior, not a dancer. I like it and it looks very good against the cactus.

Wow! This is Hauser?! A very different style than what I imagine when I think of him.

I agree with Hilda. This looks more like a warrior than a dancer. Maybe the dance is like the Maori huka where the purpose of the dance is to show the ferocity of the dancer as a warrior.

Much different from the one called "Homeward Bound". It looks good there in the shadow of the large cactus.

The fabulous cactus behind the sculpture caught my attention right away! :-)
