Arizona State Fair….coming soon

Many of our Eastern and Midwestern photo bloggers have been posting great photos and stories about their state fairs. While most states have their fairs during the late summer months, Arizonans have to wait a little while for the opportunity to pet a pot-bellied pig and eat a fried Twinkie. We don’t really mind. The triple digit heat of summer will be a thing of the past and we should be able to enjoy the food, rides, animals, concerts, and crafts without the fear of sunstroke.

I'm looking forward to see your pics of the fair.
I haven't visited your blog for a while and it seems I've missed a lot! I specially enjoyed the Harkins Theater architecture, it's absolutelly fantastic!!! Also liked 'Reach for the sky' very much. Good work!

Although I grew up in the Midwest, I had never been to a state fair until moving to Phoenix as an adult in 1982. We used to take our kids to the Arizona state fair each year to let them see the animals up close and ride some of the rides.

The Arizona State Fairgrounds also includes the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where the Phoenix Suns used to play, and they had concerts in the Coliseum for no charge but the $5.00 ticket to get into the fair. My kids saw their first big-name concerts there, such as the Beach Boys, Moody Blues, etc., until they got into their teenage years and decided that they did not like the same music as me.

By the way, speaking of events such as the state fair, I will needle my wife, since today is her birthday, by pointing out that as a 4th generation Arizonan from a pioneer family who still has a ranch, her background as a youth included serving as an "udder judger" in dairy cow exhibitions. She has left that skill off her resume as an adult.
