A new life: Century Plaza

This building was originally a high-rise office building built in 1974. It was basically a big square black glass building with no outstanding features. It is going through a huge metamorphosis right now and being converted to condominiums. Because it sits closer to Central Avenue than any other high-rise along the street, it will offer residents some spectacular views of the Central Corridor and beyond.

Ten or fifteen years ago there was a glut of office space here and it became trendy to convert underused office buildings to condos.
Then it was old warehouses and factories. I guess the warehouses are still converted but I can't think of an office building being converted for quite a while.
You've prompted me to take a few pictures of some of the more noteworthy conversions Sharon. If I can get a pic worth posting I'll put it up sometime in the next month or so.

We've had quite of few of these office to condo conversions lately. I'll post another one later on.

This building was still being worked on when we moved a year ago. It looks really nice now. I used to live on 7th and Osborn so I drove by this everyday.

Randy,
We might have been neighbors! I live very close to 7th & Osborn. Was it Ave. or Street?

I would be very careful about purchasing a unit at Century Plaza, there is a group action lawsuit in progress, issues involving such things as Century Plaza demanding close of escrow when they cannot produce a FINAL Certificate of Occupancy (not a Temporary), followed by contract cancellations if buyers don't close anyway within 48 hours. Their own contracts state that FINAL approval is what defines "completion date". LET THE BUYER BEWARE! If you would like information about this lawsuit, contact www.centuryplazalawsuit@yahoo.com

This is crazy, I currently LIVE in Century Plaza and I absolutely love it! I am embarrassed to admit that I let this group of investors shake me to the point that I called my banker to inquire about the Certificate of Occupancy issue and my lender laughed at me and said there is no way in hell they would give me a loan if there was an actual issue regarding this. It's a great building and all of the residents and staff have been so wonderful and friendly. It makes me sad to see these greedy people slandering the name and reputation of the place that I call home. Do yourself a favor and check it out yourself, don't make the same mistake that I did and give these bitter people an ounce of credibility.

There are many happy HOMEOWNERS at Century Plaza; folks who actually closed (like Georgeanna who posted above). Unfortunately there are some unhappy INVESTORS (many of whom lied when they wrote their purchase contracts) who are incapable of closing or simply refuse to close (like Century Plaza Lawsuit who posted above). Now these INVESTORS are backing out of their contracts and are looking for any reason or excuse to get their earnest deposits back.

To others who may read this blog, be careful when listening to the advice of an INVESTOR who could not close escrow then went on multiple blogs and to the press to lie about how bad the developer is. Century Plaza did EVERYTHING they said they would do (and more). Did these INVESTORS do the same? No, they did not and now they are posting disparaging comments in several blogs. Sour grapes of the highest order!

All one needs to do is tour the beautiful building and talk to the residents to know Century Plaza is one of the best (if not THE best) residential high-rise buildings in Arizona. Don't take these bitter investor's word for it... see it for yourself and make up your own mind.
